National Coloring Book Day is a funny holiday to celebrate the joy we feel while doing coloring pages. Fortunately in the past years coloring became a family event: kids and parents can both enjoy the relaxing side of drawing and coloring.
In 2024 we celebrate National Coloring Book Day on the 2nd of August and of course, we also offer you some fun coloring page printables to download.

What is National Coloring Book Day about?
Coloring Book Day is a great opportunity to be a child again and grab some pencils, some friends and start a coloring party! Coloring Book Day hones the relaxing nature of filling a page with your preferred colors.
We are especially happy about this special day as our family is fond of coloring. Creativity is always a relaxing tool for kids and grown-ups too.

Why are coloring books useful?
Some can think that coloring is not art itself and we strongly disagree with this statement. Any kind of creation is a great way to express your emotions and creativity, and through art, you can show who you are without words. Coloring is not an exception. Not two line art will be the same when someone colors them. The choice of colors, line pressure, and shading make a lot of difference.
Coloring Pages for Adults
Adult coloring pages have some big advantages over other activities. They greatly reduce stress, moreover, some say it just simply blocks your fear center so you can get into a meditative state of mind. In this state, our body and hormones try to balance out themselves so all the stress hormones are going away.
Adult coloring pages can also train our brain to focus (remember: you pay attention to color inside the lines, and that is a great workout for your brain!). Coloring also makes you sleep better because it reduces the level of stress hormones that can keep you awake at night.
What a great way for a goodnight’s sleep instead of sleeping pills and sedatives!

Coloring pages for kids
The benefits of coloring pages for kids are countless. It strengthens their hand muscles preparing them for writing (pencil grip) and helps them execute complex hand movements.
Coloring printables are also a great way to express creativity and stimulate self-expression. Those children who don’t like frontal connections can open up by coloring and drawing because it’s an indirect form of showing who they are.
In childhood coloring activities are highly beneficial for fine-motor skills and coordination. These skills are fundamental for later academic success.

Why are coloring books so popular?
The popularity of coloring books exploded in recent years. You can now see several grown-ups sitting at a café and coloring with their pencils while having their morning latte. Fortunately, coloring is not just a kids’ activity anymore.
Our family is also a big fan of coloring books, take a look at how our son is coloring leaves in the picture to the right.
We encourage you to color together as a family if you have a chance. It is always a great opportunity to have a conversation about anything that comes up. You will see your children are more open-minded while coloring so they will share more of their thoughts and feelings. And that’s always a great success in my books.
