How to start to organize your life and see instant results

Starting to organize your life with children can be chaotic. I know it. With 3 little boys under the age of 7 we always have something happening in our house. Not so long ago I always had to keep a lot of things in mind and of course I forgot several of them.

But chaos in the house means chaos in every part of our lives. Have you heard about the broken window theory? In a nutshell and in a relation to our household it means if you let things fall apart and not fix them or organize them when they happen, then they will start to deteriorate with time making chaos take over more and more.

Managing the household, the kids, the family life is hard. That’s why I have researched, developed and designed our organizational printables to make my life easier. To save more time a day. To earn more time for my family and for the things I love to do. “Me-time” rings a bell, right?

Starting to organize can be overwhelming first. Where to start? What to do? How to do it? To answer these questions I compiled this short list for you to get started.

Focus on one part of your life, don’t want to change everything at once

Our world is changing at a fast pace. We want everything at once, and the life around us makes us stressful about being perfect, doing things perfectly, and just be on top of everything.

In order to feel more relieved just go ahead and choose one aspect of your life to work on. The rest can wait till you get some experience. This part can be for example a space in your house (kitchen, dining room, bathroom) or you can start with organizing your day first.

First make a list, write everything down. Mark all activity you need to do with an estimated timeframe. You can get our daily to-do list organizer in various themes in our printable library to get started.

Don’t forget: focus on only one part of your life!

Use printable planners, to-do lists or an organizational software to organize your life

By writing down our goals and to-do lists we become “somewhat” accountable. (We can always cheat, but writing things down is the effective way to set some responsibility). On paper (or on the screen in case of an organizing software) we can clearly see the steps we need to take.

Most of the time we don’t start decluttering because we don’t see what needs to be done. We feel overwhelmed (remember: chaos took everything over) so at the end we don’t even start anything.

With a written list we can see exactly the steps, the way to work toward our goal and we can focus on completing one after the other.

You can find a lot of to-do lists, planners with your preferred motives in our huge printable library. Click here to choose your printable planner.

If you prefer to use online solutions then there are some online organizer we can recommend too.

  • Trello is our favorite to create to-do lists. Its Kanban style method allows you to move to-do cards in a way toward progression. Highly recommended and it’s free till 10 boards.
  • Clickup is another online organizational tool, we use it in our business and it can be easily used in a home environment.

Don’t make the planning process longer than it needs to be

When we start to plan for decluttering purposes we are often lost in the details. Don’t forget that your goal is to start doing not just planning.

Planning is your helper for getting things done.

Do not spend your time just planning, use it as a tool to get you started doing. We are tend to postpone doing things we don’t feel passionate about. Writing things down to organize your life is important but doing the organization is more important.

Our planners and daily to-do lists are great tools to help you organize your life so start to use them now.

Takeaway for you to start organize your life:

  1. Focus on one thing at a time
  2. Use planners, to-do lists to your advantage
  3. Don’t spend more time planning than doing

If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.
